Chumani has lived most of his life as an outcast; usually surviving in the wilderness, making camps on the outskirts of cities and towns. He is quite used to having to catch, skin and cook his own food in the forests of Returned Abeir. He does occasionally make trips into the closest city if he needs supplies – he understands the value of a blacksmith-crafted weapon or set of armor, or a finely made animal-hide blanket. Chumani’s affinity for nature is what keeps him from joining “civilized society” and it’s what he’s been used to since he was a boy. Most people think he is simple-minded because of how he speaks – direct and to the point. He is slow to trust any new people, but is loyal to those he knows have good intentions. When traveling into towns, he always tries to hide or blend in, but rarely has luck doing so. Chumani stands just over seven and a half feet tall, and his thick muscular body does not hide well under simple robes. He does his best to avoid confrontation, but some city-folk don’t take kindly to ‘monstrosities’ such as himself, and has been antagonized and thrown out of settlements before. He does not stay in one area for long, and has been travelling from region to region his whole life.
Chumani was born into a tribe of savages, the spawn of a half-giant chieftain and a female human, most likely kept as an “unwilling mistress” for the great warrior. He never knew his mother, and grew up in the nomadic barbarian pack until he was a teenager. The only life that Chumani knew was raiding and pillaging small settlements and camps of unwary travelers. When his father, Grexxis Mug’Thol, forced Chumani to slaughter a young woman and her child on one of the late night attacks, he knew he had to escape; he knew this wasn’t what he was meant to do. Chumani gathered as many supplies as he could, slipped into his father’s tent and stole his axe from beside his bed, and darted off into the forest. Ever since then, he’s lived the life he’s used to as a nomad, but living off of nature as opposed to robbing others for survival.
